Waking up in YK - 2 Days to Go!

For some reason I always sleep better in the cold...

I'm glad that we ended up changing our flights to YK a day early - Gives us a bit more time to chill-ax in town and finalize the gear list. With just over a day and half to go - I'm getting a wee bit nervous...

Travelling from Canmore, Mike (Argue), Liza (Pye) and myself drove up to Edmonton to catch our flight up North. The 3+ hr drive went by relatively quickly as the anticipation of the event loomed in our minds...Within minutes we were spilling the beans on our gear strategies, talking shop and trying to instill a bit of doubt in the others' mind...Either way, I figure it's good to keep my main competition close by, if only to keep tabs on him.

Sorry for the extra fuzz in the photo - taken on the fly in 'no photo' zone...

It's a good thing we arrived early because Mike busted the oversize x-ray machine in Edmonton and had to take EVERYTHING OUT to get checked! The security dude was just about to start fingering through his protein powder when the machine started working again! Good thing too because I was not looking forward to emptying my gear bag...

Today has been quite relaxed so far...a bit of work, a bit of socializing and a bit of shopping. A quick trip to the Overlander (ski shop) for Mike to finish working on his shopping list (as I write this he's still out there!). Above, he's sporting Camelbak's latest 'integrated' bladder shirt...slick.

A cold (-20C) windy (15k/hr) and grey day in YK today...

Thanks to the Argue's for putting us up in YK - There's nothing like some good YK hospitality and homecookin' to get you prepped for Rock and Ice!

Now it's time to go check out the course!

Phil,

I'm sure it will be quite the adventure! Best of luck. Looking forward to the stories when you get back.

Don't get too cold!
